Last week, I had to MAKE Tristyn put down her book she was reading so we could do other school work finished. Lately all she has been wanting to do is read. Reading has know moved into her favorite school subject. As an avid reader myself, I love it! But that wasn’t the case last year. This year, the books have been amazing and she hasn’t wanted to put them down.
Tristyn has readers that I assign her to read and we have books we read together. In the 15 years I’ve homeschooled, read-alouds have always been one of my favorite things with my girls!
This month our books have been so wonderful, that I thought I’d share.
The Sign of the Beaver by Elizabeth George Speare
Caddie Woodlawn (Her favorite so far!)
By The Great Horn Spoon! by Sid Fleischman
Freedom Train by Dorthy Sterling
Turn Homeward, Hannalee by Patricia Beatty
Shades of Gray by Carolyn Reeder
Old Yeller by Fred Gipson
Carry On, Mr. Bowditch by Jean Lee Latham (This one is a tear jerker!)
Johnny Tremain by Esther Hoskins Forbes
Moccasin Trail by Eloise Jarvis McGraw
Little Britches by Ralph Moody (One of my all-time favorite books to read to kids. Great life lessons packed in this one!)
My hope is that this list will inspire you to read to your kids or give you some new books to try.
What are some of your favorite books?
“No book is really worth reading at the age of ten which is not equally – and often far more – worth reading at the age of fifty and beyond.”
C. S. Lewis
