I love the New Year. It is the perfect time to get your home get rid of all of the clutter and organize it. It is my goal every January. I do great the first few days, but after spending hours uncluttering closets and drawers every day, I start to burn out. Well, not this year! Have you heard about the Home Organization 101 Challenge hosted by A Bowl Full of Lemons? Every week we take a different room or section of the house. I love that! I don’t feel like I have to get everything done in one month!!
Last week was the kitchen. I enlisted Tristyn to help. Every day after her school was finished, we conquered a different section of the kitchen
Our favorite way to organize is to:
*remove EVERYTHING from all the drawers and cabinets.
*wipe down the inside and the outside of the drawer or cabinet (replace drawer liners and shelf liners, if needed)
*put all like things together. For example, all spatulas go together, all Tupperware goes together, etc.
*only put the things back that you use. Don’t hold on to things that you never use. Toss out things that you have several of. You don’t need 200 Tupperware lids.
Once I finished with all the cabinets and drawers, I took everything off of the counters and wiped the counters and back splash. I cleaned the ovens, stove, refrigerator and freezer. I wiped the very top of the cabinets.( If you have a greasy residue on your cabinets, use vinegar to clean them. )
I love taking the time and cleaning the chandelier, which is one of my favorite things from my kitchen remodel. The easiest way I have found is to cover my table with old towels and spray the entire chandelier with a vinegar/water mixture. (Add 1 part vinegar to 1 part water to a spray bottle.) After you spray the light, wait about 3-5 minutes and then wipe the chandelier a clean soft rag.
I like my counters clear, except for a few things that we use most often. I recently added a tray where I keep my most used spices together. I absolutely love it!
I still keep my cocoa bar out throughout the winter, I just clean it up a bit.
I hope you will join me in the challenge! This week is the laundry room!
