Last March, I made a lifestyle change. I discovered I had candida. I went on a strict “only lean meats and vegetables” diet to kill it off in my body. At first, I thought I was going to die, but after a few days I realized that I might live… actually I liked it. I only needed to stay on the diet for 4-6 weeks. When the 4 weeks were over I realized I’d never felt better in my entire life. I didn’t want to go back to eating my old way. Trust me, I thought I was healthy. I always ate fruit and salads. I made my husband share a meal when we went out to eat. I didn’t eat past 8:00 pm. I only ate brown rice and whole grains. I also needed a nap almost every day. No matter how many times I worked out, I couldn’t seem to get toned. I thought that was normal. I’m getting older, right?
A friend showed me a book he was reading called “The Paleo Solution” by Robb Wolfe. I loved it. It was everything I was already doing on my candida diet but I could actually eat more than I had been eating.
My husband saw the difference in me during the month of my candida diet and decided to join me. For nine months, we’ve changed to a “paleo/gluten free” lifestyle. He lost about 40 pounds (before he switched to a Paleo lifestyle) by portion control, watching what he ate and working out (a lot!) He hit a wall and couldn’t lose any more. Since he switched to eating Paleo, he has lost another 25-30 pounds. We didn’t change our diet to lose weight. That was just an added bonus. We did it to feel better.
Are you wondering what Paleo is? It’s pretty basic.
Basically, you need to know your ingredients. If it comes from a box, don’t eat it! Fresh, REAL food is always best!
Here is a picture of my husband 2 years ago. This wasn’t even at his heaviest. I never realized he was heavy (he’s always been such a hottie to me!) until I started looking at old pictures.
Weight is a funny thing. I think it’s such a slow process when you put it on, that you don’t even realize it. He put on weight after his dad passed away. It was such a hard time for him. Now that he has lost weight, we look at old pictures and are shocked.
These are the most recent pictures of him. He looks amazing!
Why am I sharing this?
1. I hope it will help someone. Most people want to get in shape and lose weight, but they don’t know where to start. Ask yourself: How do you feel? Are you tired? Do you have aches and pains? After you eat, do you need a nap? Do you need a change?
2. I stopped posting recipes and I want to get back to posting but…..my recipes are different now. We still eat amazing, but they are healthy.
3. It is a part of who I am now and this blog is about me and my journey. Sometimes I forget that.
Most people think they couldn’t cut out bread or sugar. I didn’t think I could (and I LOVED SUGAR), until I decided I was tired of being sick and tired!
You can do whatever you decide to do! Make up your mind and do it! It may not be easy, but it’s possible. I promise you won’t regret it.
