Fourteen years ago. I slept in that morning, still trying to catch up on my sleep from having a 4 week old baby. (It took me 10 years to catch up!) Mark called to tell me to turn on the news. Initially, I thought someone accidentally hit the building. Then I watched as a plane hit the 2nd building. I felt the prompting of the Holy Spirit to immediately pray. I dropped to my knees and began to pray for our nation and our President. For the next few hours, I sat in bed holding Tristyn and crying. I couldn’t believe the evil in our world and that America was a victim to terrorism. How could I raise a baby in such an evil world?
Over the next few days, I had never been more proud to be an American. Our nation was running to Christ. We were united. We were strong. We were shaken but not be destroyed. We would overcome and become stronger in the process.
Mark and I are proud Americans. We’ve raised our daughters to love and respect our country and never take for granted our freedoms. We love our military. Y’all, I still get tears in my eyes when I sing the National Anthem. (I’m not kidding. Every. single. time.)
We said we would never forget.
Fourteen years later, I think we forgot. As a country, we have endured so much, but are now more divided than ever. What have we become? Where is our love of county? Our love of America? Our patriotism? Our love of one another? More importantly, where is our hate of evil? Why are we so worried about offending evil? Why are we not united? Are we not still ONE nation under God?
I’ve not lost hope. I still remember the lives lost. I will never forget that day. I will never forget what evil did to our country and I pray with my entire being that we will again run towards Christ. We will stand as one nation again. We will fight for good and hate evil.
Will you join my in praying for our nation? I want to encourage you to set aside a specific time to pray every day for our nation, for our leaders, and for the lost.
“if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”
