Today begins Day 1 of writing love letters to strangers.
Why would I write love letters to strangers? Well, let me tell you how it happened.
You see I’ve been camping out in the book of John lately. (Good stuff, people!)
John 15:12 says “This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.”
If I’m abiding in Christ, then I’m doing what he’s doing. I’m going about HIS business, not my own. Christ is love. I starting thinking about what I’m doing to show love not just to people I know but others.
There’s a few things that’s important to know about love:
1. Love seeks! Who needs to be loved today?
2. Love is never silent! Who needs to hear they are loved?
3. Love serves! I don’t want to just say I love people….I want to show my love!
4. Love sacrifices! Love gives it self away.
5. Love stays! Love never fails.
So all these thoughts have been going on in my mind, praying that the Lord would give me the opportunity to show his love to others. Then I ran across Dear Corinne’s Instagram. She writes a letter every day to strangers letting them know they are loved. She’s doing this for 100 days. Amazing, isn’t it? What a simple gesture that can change someone’s life!
But then, I started thinking ….do I really have time to write all these letters? No, not really. So I put the thought in the back of my mind.
Okay, to make a long story even longer….
That same night I was working on my computer while my husband was watching the news. I hate the news so I wasn’t paying attention, then I heard a tiny part of this story, and it brought tears to my eyes.
A gunman entered a school and somehow this lady who works at the school became the go-between person between the gunman and police. She started to tell him about her struggles and her attempted suicide. She talked to him from her heart.
After he surrendered this is what she told him. “It’s going to be all right, sweetie. I just want you to know I love you, though, OK? And I’m proud of you. That’s a good thing that you’re just giving up and don’t worry about it. We all go through something in life.”
Oh my word! She told him she loved him. I couldn’t believe it! Obviously, the gunman had mental issues(as he stated) but I started wondering how many times had someone told him that they loved him? I wonder if he knew he was loved with an everlasting love (Jer. 31:3) would he have resorted to taking a gun into a school? Would he have been so hopeless?
That’s when I decided to write love letters to strangers. I want to tell them the good news! Life can be rough. Life can be hard…..but don’t give up! You are loved!
I don’t have time to write 100 letters, but I have time to write 1 or 2. I will take one day at a time and hopefully get to 100. When I’m out, I will drop my letters off at places the Lord puts on my heart. I will trust that He will put them in the hands of the person who needs to hear truth.
I’m not an artist and sometimes my handwriting is messy, but I think they will get the point. The point is that someone is thinking about you. Someone is praying for you. And someone loves you!
The Lord has appeared of old to me, saying:
“Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love”
